AutoExpress recently obtained an exclusive interview with Saab’s new head of design, Jason Castriota.

The report mentions that the Saab 9-3 will be completely redesigned for 2012, rather than Saab offering only an external update in 2011 as previously thought.

In addition to the all new Saab 9-5 which is arriving at dealers now, we expect to see the all new Saab 9-4X crossover debut at the Los Angeles Auto Show in November of 2010, with the new 9-4X arriving in dealers around April of 2011.

July 2011 should bring the new Saab 9-5 Estate / Wagon version of the all new Saab 9-5.

Again the Saab 9-3 should appear as an all new design in 2012.

Also mentioned in the interview were Mr. Castriota’s work on additional Saab models we may see in the next few years.

New models being considered by Saab include the Saab Sonett concept (an image only, pictured above – there is no actual concept car in existence to my knowledge). Mr. Castriota reports that this new Saab Sonett is based upon concepts such as the Saab Aero X of 2006.

Also mentioned were Saabs plans that might produce an all new, smaller Saab possibly to be named the 9-1 or perhaps the 9-2.

The 9-1 or 9-2 was also pictured on AutoExpress and the concept image is shown below (all courtesy of AutoExpress).

It’s great to see Saab moving ahead with plans to succeed, and sharing a few sneak peeks at what future Saab models MAY look like.

  1. I’m glad that Mr. Castriota’s realizes that there are a lot people like myself who are excited about the possibilities that this almost cult following brand has especially if the product delivers. I am driving my eight Saab and can’t wait to see the GM-less influences in such models like the Sonnet.
    I already want one…
    Please do it.

    • Agreed! Don’t know if or when it will happen but I’m excited to see what the new Saabs will look like minus the GM influence. I do think it’s an exciting time for this little company we call Saab.
