February 18, 2010:

Saabs United and Saab History are reporting on the situation many of us have been aware of and deeply concerned about for quite some time.

Although Saab is being sold to Spyker by General Motors, the paperwork has yet to be finalized or at least announced publicly. This news is expected very soon.

While the sale of Saab to Spyker is excellent and promising news, many dealers including U.S. dealers have been faced with enormous challenges for a year or more in many cases.

Issues for the dealers have included a lack of product (cars) being available, lack of financing options customers required such as lease financing. The long term impact of not having enough cars and financing options for car buyers is taking its toll on dealers.

Saab, whether via GM or the new owner, Spyker, needs to act immediately to address both short and long term needs of dealers. Without a proper network of dealers, the turn-around of Saab into a profitable company will be far more difficult.

Please, GM, Spyker, lending institutions, take immediate notice and provide the safety net and financing that Saab dealers require.

Saab may be saved as a car brand with the sale of Saab to Spyker, but the dealers must be saved as well in order to ensure a successful future for Saab.

If you are in the market for a car – please consider getting to your Saab dealer ASAP, and add a Saab to your life. You won’t regret it.
